Ha ha ha! I hope you are joking! Nevertheless, I don’t know who you are so you could be a multi-billionare. But Thats exactly what you would have to be!!! The cost of starting a new team is unreal. But, if the team does well it more than pays for itself! Just a matter of getting started.

It’s not going to happen. The league is at a very nice round 32 teams, and that is not going to change. Existing franchises are sold quite frequently, and some are even moved to a new city, but there will not be any new franchises in the NFL for a long, long time.

If you’re not in a good media market then you have no chance. A good media market is a major city with a good amount of suburbs around it. A team needs a good media market to support it. Owners won’t let a team start in Boise, Idaho because of this. No offense to Boise but it’s a good example of a city that’s not really a good media market.
I’m not sure exactly how much it costs but if the owner or ownership group doesn’t have a couple of hundred million dollars to put into the team then it won’t happen. Not that the NFL asks for $200 million to be paid to the league but if you don’t have that kind of money then you won’t be able to do any of the things that are needed to start a team.
Lastly, if you look to start a team in any city not named “Los Angeles” these days the league won’t even listen to you. L.A. is the second largest media market and the NFL desperately wants a team there.

Now, next to impossible. With 32 teams, the NFL is happy with that amount. They stated, when the Texans were started, that would not want to add anymore teams.

The only chance for a new team now is through Red McCombs, the former owner to the Vikings. He had it in his contract, that if the team couldn’t be moved, and he sold it, he could get a franchise in San Antonio. I don’t think he will try now with two teams in Texas.

Well in order to get one started you would have to get direct contact with city officials for the teams headquarters, stadium, and name. Plus, you would have to contact the NFL Commissioner and board in order to see if they would allow your team to come in the league, as you would have to propose the stadium, teams name, logo, mascot, uniforms, players, staff, and location.

One major problem with starting a new team is that there are 32 NFL teams right now. It’s equally divided into 4 teams in 8 divisions, so the chances of actually creating a team and establishing it would be high unlikely.
